President:  Marjut Jalkanen

Hi there!

I’m Marjut and I’m the president of ESN Jyväskylä. I study at the school of business and economics and my major is management and leadership. I had my crazy/fun/awesome exchange experience in the south of Spain in the city of Granada during the academic year 2010-2011. I love doing team sports, especially ringette (hand up if you know the sport), football and floorball, I won’t say no to a great party and I’m always ready for some travelling.

I have been part of the ESN Jyväskylä board for two and a half years and I still love doing this. Being in ESN has already given me so much: great friends, brilliant trips, crazy parties, delicious food and exciting sport events. I'm expecting the autumn 2014 to be full of great adventures with all the international students and our amazing board.

If you are interested in joining ESN Jyväskylä or have an idea for something we should organize, don't hesitate to contact me or any other board members, we don't bite.

Vice President: Annika Selander

I'm Annika, currently in my umpteenth year of studying French, English, intercultural communication, and pedagogy, very likely never going to grow up and/or graduate. After years of talking about it, I also just started studying Spanish, and I am muy excited about it!

I spent my own unforgettable Erasmus semester in Bordeaux, France a few years ago, and completely lost my heart to ESN when I came back home. My current job involves everything and anything, basically making sure that everything runs smoothly for Marjut and the board. When I'm not ESNing (always), studying (almost never), searching for the closest place to find coffee, obsessing over Spotify playlists or redecorating my apartment on a whim, I like to spend my time enjoying good music and food. I appreciate postcards, stupid jokes, and witty word usage, and I'm almost always up to something - more often than not way too many things at the same time.

I can't wait to get the new year going, see you around!!

Events Coordinator: Jonna Temonen
My name is Jonna and I'm the ESN events coordinator. My major is physical education and my minors are health sciences, economics, and journalism. I love sports and I'm a really sporty girl. My favorite sports are basketball, golf, tennis, and football. :) When I'm not doing sports, I like to hang with my friends, eat good food, and just relax. I'm really into travelling and my dream is to travel to New York. I hope it'll happen soon. I did my Erasmus exchange in Lausanne, Switzerland. I had a great time and my mission is to make sure that your exchange is as good as mine was. Gaudeamus igitur. Xx Jonna
Stammtisch Coordinator: Satu Sormunen

Hi y'all!

My name is Satu and I’m the new Stammtisch coordinator. My major is Russian language and culture, and my minor is English. I’ve been an exchange student myself twice, first in Australia and then in Russia, and those have given me the best and the craziest memories so far. During my free time, I love to watch movies, do sports, travel, and hang out with my friends. I’m also REALLY interested in different cultures, so please, if you have some crazy and/or funny stories about what happened to you abroad, share them with me. Oh, and by the way, this is my third year in university. See you at the next Stammtisch party!

Sports Coordinator: Shwaz Bin Zafar

Hi sporties, I am Shwaz Bin Zafar from Pakistan and I am the sports coordinator for ESN Jyväskylä. I study facility management at JAMK Dynamo. I love doing sports and I will be trying to make your days of exchange in Jyväskylä as sporty as I can. ;) Personally I like to play badminton, table tennis, tennis, squash, Finnish baseball, cricket, floorball, basketball, skating, sprint running, etc. and I love travelling as well. :D

I hope to see many sporty people this year and I would love to arrange at least one tournament for hopefully one of the sports mentioned, so be prepared. ;) I hope that I will make your stay in Jyväskylä memorable.

See you, guys and girls!

Café Lingua Coordinator: Senna Juntunen

Hi all!

I’m Senna Juntunen and I’m the Café Lingua coordinator. Now I’m doing my masters in intercultural communcation for the second year. In my freetime I do yoga, go to the gym, and play badminton. I love to be social too, I like to meet friends and go out for live music. I’m also a language freak which was one of the reasons why I applied to be the Café Lingua coordinator. I’m an outgoing person and I love travelling – my own exchange in Malaysia gave me a lot of confidence in the international field and gave me a lot of friends overseas that I still keep contact with.

I hope I will see you all at the Café Lingua evenings and get a chance to catch some words of your language!

Treasurer: Jemmi Kuurila

My name is Jemmi and I am the treasurer for the ESN Jyväskylä board for the year 2014. I am a second-year business student majoring in accounting. I am a very organized person and can't live without my calendar. I like getting to know new people and seeing new places. I'm always searching for something new to learn in life. Travelling is my passion and I like the saying ”Travel is the only thing you can buy that makes you richer”. I hope you'll have a great time here in Finland!

Secretary: Jenna McVey

Hej på er!

My name is Jenna and while I’m originally from the United States, I’m now permanently here in Jyväskylä to complete my bachelor’s studies, my major being English. So far, my first year of university has been great, and being part of ESN Jyväskylä has made it even better. My number one passion is languages and translation, specifically Finnish and English. After that, I love to read books and poetry, especially from authors like Barbara Kingsolver, Colum McCann, and Kate Christensen. I also love creative writing, singing and playing piano quite terribly but still enjoying it so much my heart could burst, making good food, photography, walks in forests and mountains, and being with my friends and family when they’re near. I hope you find Jyväskylä and Finland as a whole just as lovely as I do!

Travel Coordinator: Paula Saarinen

I'm Paula and I'm the ESN travel coordinator. I'm a third-year speech communications student. As minors, I study economics and intercultural communication. I've lived 6 months in the Netherlands as an exchange student and many of my friends are from different countries. My exchange time changed my life and ESN had a huge effect on that. I enjoy my free time by seeing friends, doing sports, and having fun. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, feedback, etc. about the trips. I'm looking forward to seeing you all!

Local Representative: Sanna Rauhamäki

My name is Sanna and I study cell and molecular biology as my major, but I've cheated it with chemistry, Asian studies and nowadays also with IT. I've been part of ESN Jyväskylä for quite some time and I don't seem to get enough of it. I'm very enthusiastic about everything ESN and I want to do my best to help all internationally-minded students have the time of their lives in my dear hometown - Jyväskylä. Although as the local representative my responsibilities lie mostly in relations between us and other ESN sections and are not directly focused on organizing free time activities for students, it's virtually impossible to forgo lending a helping hand every now and again. It's safe to say ESN  activities are one of my favorite things I like to do in my free time, next to doing sports, traveling, studying languages and training my dog Ilo. To conclude, I'd love to discover Jyväskylä all over again (and who knows what else) with all the awesome people on exchange. And of course, if you need paw therapy, you know who to contact.

Web Project Coordinator: Mikko Hyvärinen

The classic Erasmus story happened to me too in Vienna, Austria. I was expecting to experience living abroad and maybe to get some international experience, but I got so much more than I expected that it's impossible to even begin to comprehend. Erasmus left a gaping hole in me which I had to fill up somehow. I felt I could do most if I helped the exchange students in Jyväskylä, just like my ESN buddies had done for me in Vienna. My goal is to make someone's stay a bit easier and more fun. I'm the IT manager for the 2014 term. I'm in the IT business and that's where my strengths are in work life.

I love skiing, snowboarding, running, languages, and travelling. One of the best feelings that I know is the post-stress euphoria when you are waiting for your flight at the airport and you are on your way for your next adventure. Apart from the usual English, you can try to speak German, Russian, or Swedish to me as I'm eager to learn more, but don't expect too much. I dream of having a flexible job in an international environment where I could travel and meet new people from all over the world. I feel like I'm a bit closer to my dream now. :)

Communication Coordinator: Mari Tuokko

I'm the ESN PR and communications coordinator for the year 2014. I am a speech communications major student and as minors, I study intercultural communication, French, and economics. I fell in love with traveling and seeing new places when I was fifteen and since then, I have lived in America, Australia, France, and the UK. Meeting different people, learning new things, and getting to know new cultures inspire me. For me, the best way to spend free time is to do sports - cheerleading, snowboarding, horseback riding, and surfing are my favorite things to do. I love snowy, white winters when one can light candles in the dark evenings, but summers are definitely my favorite! Hope to see you lots during 2014!
