ESN Jyväskylä is going to an orienteering event organized by Suunta Jyväskylä on Thursday 14.9. The event will begin by a short instruction of map reading and orienteering basics provided by ESN Jyväskylä, after which we will divide participants into pairs, give out maps and send you off to the forest. You have until 20:00 to get back from the forest. Participants will receive maps and one emit (a device to control you progression) per pair. There are several routes offered, and they vary in lenght and difficulty, and we will advice you with choosing of the route.
What is orienteering?
Orienteering is a group of sports that requires navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain whilst moving at speed. Participants are given a topographical map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map, which they use to find control points. (Wikipedia)
